Longer-Lasting
Electrodes Designed for Baby Skin.
Finally, there’s a neonatal and pediatric electrode that stays
in place AND lasts, even in high humidity environments – LifeGuard™ Electrodes
from Hawaii Medical.
LifeGuard Electrodes’™ proprietary
design offers:
 |
 |
 |
Superior adhesion and re-application |
 |
Approximately three-to-four days of use, with
some hospitals reporting several days of continued high humidity
use and even longer in conventional use |
|
 |
Patented Aloha™ Hydrogel, specifically
designed for tender infant skin and offering greater resistance
to dry-out |
 |
A special urethane “umbrella” coating
that shields against moisture |
 |
Patterned mylar backing |

LifeGuard Electrodes: Accuracy, Reliability, and
Baby Comfort
Hawaii Medical has teamed with the world’s most innovative electrode
and hydrogel company to develop a line of neonatal electrodes for the new
millennium: LifeGuard™ Electrodes. Three years in development, these
patented electrodes combine superior signal capture, patented hydrogel,
and a unique moisture barrier. As a result, LifeGuard Electrodes offer
highly accurate, longer-lasting performance in high humidity and normal
environments, and are radio translucent.
LifeGuard Electrodes vs. Conventional Electrodes
CONVENTIONAL ELECTRODES
With traditional electrodes, a single layer of hydrogel is burdened with
two jobs: To aggressively hold the electrode together and to remain gentle
against the baby’s skin. Consequently, the gel’s formulation
is compromised, sacrificing either gentleness or aggressiveness. In addition,
the thin, fabric mesh that gives hydrogel its body floats unpredictably
during gel production. This can result in erratic performance and increased
electrode failure. If the mesh is near the top of the gel, the electrode
may delaminate. If it is near the bottom, there may be insufficient gel
for satisfactory skin adhesion.

LIFEGUARD ELECTRODES
LifeGuard Electrodes’™ innovative, patented design includes
two layers of Aloha Hydrogel, each distinctly formulated for a specific
task: Layer One for delicate skin adhesion, Layer Two for aggressive electrode
bonding. The LifeGuard Electrode mesh is securely locked between the hydrogel
layers, ensuring predictable performance, greater accuracy, and a dramatically
minimized failure rate. Furthermore, LifeGuard Electrodes have a thin urethane
coating that act as an umbrella to protect against moisture and keep the
electrodes looking like new. And a patterned mylar backing makes our electrodes
easy to spot.

The Industry’s Only Two-Layer Hydrogel – Aloha™ Hydrogel
Key to LifeGuard Electrodes is Hawaii Medical’s patented Aloha™ Hydrogel,
the industry’s only two-layer hydrogel. The first layer is engineered
specifically for tender infant skin. The second layer aggressively holds
the electrode together in a secure bond, helping eliminate electrode delamination.
What’s more, Aloha Hydrogel is precisely formulated for low moisture
absorption and superior resistance to dry-out. That means they’re
gentle on even the most fragile baby skin, yet strong enough to last
for several days. And Aloha™ Hydrogel comes off easily,
with no residue.
